Broadcaster Derryn Hinch says his plan for a public sex offenders register is almost complete and he hopes Daniel Morcombe’s murder will force politicians to act.
Hinch has long campaigned to name and shame pedophiles and says the Morcombe case proves the need for a national register so Australians can understand threats in their communities. … Hinch, who has gone to jail for revealing details about sex offenders’ past crimes, says a national register is a no-brainer and that in the US it hasn’t resulted in the kind of vigilante action civil libertarians warn of. The only person I find more disgusting than Broadcaster Derryn Hinch in this article is the man who violated and murdered Daniel Morcombe. I don’t know who is the most disturbed?
Regardless, two wrongs don’t make a right.
WTH! Australia started off as a penal colony…can revert back to one.
“…says a national register is a no-brainer and that in the US it hasn’t resulted in the kind of vigilante action civil libertarians warn of.” Corrections: the registry idea is for people with no brains. Who says it hasn’t caused vigilantism in the US? The registry’s other name is vigilante justice. The government let’s everyone know where you are and calls you dangerous, then looks the other way. Then municipalities and individuals think up other “justifiable” harassments. Okay, punish the offender to fit the crime — once per crime. That used to be a value of English speaking people. This new double jepordy stuff for special offenders is just plain wrong. It makes the government the violent offender, the victim, our founding principles, and guess what, it does not make people safe.
Asstralia will be known as the new Alcatraz …they want that kind of treatment ; they then say its ok for themselves ……..President Kennedy and attorney general Robert Kennedy closed down Alcatraz March 21, 1963
as stated by Robert Kennedy “how not to treat people” as one important reason for closure……………..that “how not to treat people” would apply today with the registry punishment.
I was attacked in my own back yard as a result of being on the registry. Broke my face and now deviated septum from the blows. No result of vigilantism? I can post the X-RAY of my broken face. The reporting officer said it wouldn’t do any good to press charges. Only a citation and no jail time for the attackers. There were 3.
I have since been forced to live in the outskirts of town and unfortunately have developed a pretty significant case of paranoia. My life is no longer my own. I’m owned by perpetuated Hate thanks to one-ups on tough on crime initiatives and the media sensationalizing it all. No reports of vigilantism my A$$!!!
